Byrd's legal bills
$4.5-million in billings to Broad & Cassel was authorized by former Speaker Johnnie Byrd between lectures on the state needing to live within its means. Speaker Allen Bense says he will looking into them. He'd better work fast, though. The firm has new hire -- Rep. Marco Rubio, R-Miami, set to be speaker in 2006.

Speaking of Johnnie, he was all peed off at Lakeland Ledger political columnist Bill Rufty, and wrote a letter to the editor to let 'em know about it.

In a story earlier in the week Rufty wrote:
Last year, then-House Speaker Johnnie Byrd tried to move the headquarters of the 2nd District Court of Appeal from Lakeland to Tampa. Polk legislators and their allies were able to block the move.The story in it's entirety:
