Right-wing appointment for schools

Could this be another Jerry Rieger? Jeb names ultraconservative think tanker with Congressional ambitions as Florida's chancellor of K-12 education. (And self-described creationist.)

See the Fla. Politics post comparing coverage.

The Buzz gives the right pronunciation of her name and lists some of her conservative movement bona fides.

Related: The Austringer wonders if Florida will be the next flash point for fight over teaching o Intelligent Design/Creationism in public schools. Kos contributor Darksyde also sees this appointment as a move to bring the Intelligent Design/Creationist battle to Florida.

Comments:
Positioning the right appointees may seem ominous, but perhaps it'll be the extent of it -- i.e., that will fulfill Jeb's obligation to his far-right support base.

That's not just blind optimism on my part; although there'll probably be a high-profile debate, I think there are cogent reasons why Florida is unlikely to adopt an ID agenda.
