Creationist/Not a creationist

Daily Kos has an item about Cheri Yecke, Florida's K-12 Chancellor of Education. It seems that a service called ReputationDefenders contacted a science-policy blogger to get him to take down posts about Yecke's support for Intelligent Design-style creationism. Pharyngula accuses her of whitewashing her past support for creationism.

Florida Citizens for Science notes this, too. Realitybasedcommunity.net got the letters, as well. And it's already in her Wikipedia entry.

Lately, Yecke has expressed an interest in becoming state education commissioner. Although she was another one of Jeb Bush's in-your-face ideological appointments (see the Vault of Memory here and here), she has not been the voice for hot-button righty ed issues many had expected. Still, does moderate Gov. Charlie Crist feel like getting into a fight over creationism/intelligent design as part of the state's upcoming state science standards? That hardly sounds his style. But maybe if she just erased that old creationism stuff without actually repudiating it . . .
